The yearly Senior Handicap Singles Championship tournament is rolling this Saturday at Bellevue Bowl at 1 p.m.
Seniors aged 50 and above will be rolling three games. There are two divisions according to your age, A is 50-64 and B is 65 an up. The tournament is open to men and women. Entry fee is $20, and you will use your 2011-2012 book average. ...
Jim Souza is a member of the Bellevue Seniors was practicing last week by rolling games of 200, 198, and a 229 for a super 627. It was his best ever in league or practice. Oh, by the way, Souza is 90 years old. ...
A spry Johnel Maryland rolls a 602 at 84 years old with a 224 game in the Commercial Classic. ... In the monthly no-tap doubles at Bellevue is was Dave Souza and Bob Weimer taking first place by rolling a 1,650 with handicap to take first place money of $135. The 300 jackpot now stands at over $2,000.
An old friend
Steve Plant, a friend of mine that rolls at McHenry Bowl, shot a 276 in the Friday Veterans league last week. I used to bowl with his dad, Joe, on Sunshine Farms at Century Bowl in the All-Star Scratch league. ... A couple of other Modesto bowlers, Manny Simas and Jay Faughn, placed in the recent Silver Foxes doubles held at Sierra Lanes in Fresno. They finished in a tie for 14th and each earned $59 each.

Hall of Fame
Do you have a bowler in mind that might qualify for the Merced County Bowling Hall of Fame this year? It's time to think about someone in our county who is deserving of the honor. Nominations are now open and close Jan. 31.
Last year, Larry Valenti Sr. was inducted in the Superior Ability category and Jim Souza for the Pioneer Award. Applications are now available at Bellevue Bowl. The annual HOF dinner will be held on April 13 at the Atwater community Center in Atwater.
