Miss Merced County pageant scheduled at Buhach Colony

— The Miss Merced County 2013 pageant is scheduled to be held today at Buhach Colony High School, inside the performing arts center.

The high school is at Buhach Road and Avenue 2 in Atwater. The 38th annual competition will commence at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m., according to a news release.

Nine local young women will compete for the title of Miss Merced County and scholarships, along with the opportunity to compete at the Miss California Pageant to be held in Fresno in June.

Former Miss Yosemite Valley titleholders Courtney Caron and Jacquelyn Grossman will host the show.

Returning to Merced County will be Miss California 2012, Leah Cecil. Cecil is a well-known harpist in Southern California and will perform that evening.

The current titleholder Miss Merced County 2012, Caelin Nieto, and former Miss Merced County 2010, Briana Verderber, will be on hand to crown the 2013 winner.

Tickets are $20 per person.

Miss Merced County is a franchise of the Miss America Organization. Education and community service are the main priorities of the program, according to the release.
