Community meeting to discuss Atwater's proposed half-cent sales tax set for Tuesday

ATWATER -- A community meeting is set for Tuesday evening to discuss an upcoming half-cent sales tax measure geared toward supporting public safety.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Atwater Community Center at 760 E. Bellevue Road.

Speakers from a committee supporting the tax initiative will be on hand to answer questions.

The initiative is slated to appear on the March 5 special election ballot and requires a two-thirds vote to pass.

Officials say money from the tax measure could be used to fill some positions that have been left vacant at the Atwater Police Department and for other efforts to improve public safety.
