Three people were injured Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Los Banos, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Juan Manuel Cervantes-Baneles, 38, of San Jose was driving northbound on the freeway just south of Highway 165, officer Matt Pinheiro said.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser drifted left into the median about 3:40 p.m., and the vehicle overturned multiple times before coming to rest on its roof.
Pinheiro said drugs and alcohol weren't factors and it was unclear why the car drifted into the median.
"(Cervantes-Baneles) wasn't able to give a statement at the scene due to his injuries," Pinheiro said.
The driver was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Passengers Virginia Cervantes, 58, and Bryan Cervantes, 10, suffered minor injuries. The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital Los Banos and the boy was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
