Les Palocsay: Sheriff owes public explanation

Brave sheriffs up and down the state, as well as across the country, are taking written, public, detailed positions on the gun debate and our Second Amendment rights. Sheriffs in Fresno, Madera, Siskiyou and Stanislaus counties, to name just a few, have all made their positions clear and put them in writing.

When I contacted Sheriff Mark Pazin's office, what came back was a voice mail from his administrative assistant with the following statement, "His position mirrors his colleagues across the country, and their stance against it, and that he is a lifetime NRA member."

This is a very ambiguous answer, one that begs for clarification from him. Pazin owes it to those he is sworn to protect to provide a written, detailed statement for all to see regarding his position on this very important issue.

Anything less is an abrogation of his responsibility to the citizens he has sworn to protect and to his oath of office.
