Big Easy should be permanent Super Bowl host

Published: January 30, 2013

— New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that his city is pushing back many Mardi Gras events to next week so they won't clash with the Super Bowl and further stress an already thin police force. That's a good idea. Name another city where the Super Bowl would receive second billing.

As for me — and I don't care that it's not a realistic wish — I'd hold the NCAA Final Four and the Super Bowl in New Orleans every year. The city is a living, breathing party 24-7, and not even Hurricane Katrina could bust its mojo.

The Super Bowl host committee treated the media to a party Tuesday night that featured live music, stilted dancers, vendors from 40 restaurants and even Mardi Gras floats. I just hope I'm not cursed by trying the Voodoo Shrimp.

My wife already has confiscated the photo with me surrounded by the Saints cheerleaders.

Why go anywhere else for the Big Event? New York City will welcome the Super Bowl next year with a blast of 20-degree wind. Just file a permanent Super Bowl address here and Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez — Let The Good Times Roll.
