Atwater police look into stabbing; 2 injured, no arrests

Sun-Star staff

Atwater police are investigating a stabbing reported at a Winton Way gas station late Friday in which two people were injured.

No suspects are in custody.

At 11:09 p.m Friday, police responded to the 76 gas station at 2775 Winton Way after being called about a fight. When police arrived, the combatants had left, according to Lt. Sam Joseph.

Police learned at least one person was stabbed during the fight, and a large amount of blood was found on the pavement.

A short time later, police received a call from Mercy Medical Center Merced staff, reporting that two stabbing victims, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, had arrived.

Officers went to the hospital, but one of the victims had left before police could speak with him. The other victim was uncooperative with police, Joseph said.

The victims' injuries are not believed to be life- threatening.

Atwater police are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to call (209) 357-6396. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
