SMITH: Inmates shouldn't expect better care than working Americans

Published: February 5, 2013

This is in response to the article about the women in prison. The complaint is about medical and dental care not being sufficient.

If these women were not incarcerated, what kind of jobs would they have and would they have dental and medical coverage then? What entitles them to care whenever they think they need it?

Do they even know how many millions of people are without both, and many of these are working class people.

Our taxes are already paying for keeping these large prison populations, so I don't think that just because someone is in prison, prompt medical and dental care should be expected.

At least meals are provided, and they have a roof over their head; they could be homeless.
