Pacheco completes sweep of Los Banos

LOS BANOS -- Pacheco High's boys basketball team completed a season sweep over crosstown rival Los Banos with a 47-37 victory Friday before a packed house at Los Banos High.

Le'Andre Wright led the Panthers with 13 points, and his contested bucket near the end of the first quarter gave Pacheco a 9-8 lead that it never relinquished. Sophomore Juwan Epperson followed with 10 points as Los Banos held Pacheco's traditional scoring guards Daniel Marquez and Edgar Iglesias to a combined 10 points.

In fact, Pacheco, which normally lives and dies by the 3-pointer, hit just two from beyond the arc.

James Sams led Los Banos with 9 points, followed by sophomore Alec Barcellos with 7.

Nursing a 24-16 halftime lead, Pacheco worked its lead up to 14 early in the fourth quarter and never let LB come closer than 8.

Mariposa 59, Le Grand 47

LE GRAND -- Mauricio Contreras struck for 16 of his team-high 18 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough in a loss to their fiercest rivals.

Mariposa led by as many as 20, but Sammy Flores helped trim that down with seven points in the third quarter.

Dillon Acker-James finished with a game-high 23 points for Mariposa.

J.T. Lettmann added 15 points and Jadin Battles chipped in 15 for the Grizzlies.
