Around Town: College offers classes aimed at mature drivers

Merced College's noncredit office is offering free mature driver improvement classes for residents 55 and older from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Merced Tri-College Center. To enroll, call (209) 381-6541.

Barbershop quartet offers singing Valentines

The Golden Valley Men's Barbershop Chorus will offer singing Valentines on Thursday. The group will deliver a silk rose, Valentine card and romantic song and take a digital photo of the recipient surrounded by the quartet. It will deliver in the Merced-Atwater area from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cost is $40. Call (209) 383-3808 to make a reservation.

Arbor Gallery artists' reception scheduled

A display by Arbor Gallery artists will open with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 645 W. Main St. It will feature 28 of the area's best-known artists. Call (209) 384-8338.

Beginners' sewing club will meet each month

Puppeteer to entertain all ages at the library

The Merced County Library will present puppeteer Marilyn Price at 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Gracey Room. The first show is suitable for preschool-aged children and the second one is for all ages, including adults. Call (209) 385-7643.

Workshop to help kids learn about Shakespeare

Toys and collectibles can be viewed at show

There will be a Vintage Toy and Collectible Show from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Merced Elks Lodge 1240, 1910 M St. Early-bird viewing takes place from 9 to 9:59 a.m. Admission is $5, or $10 for early birds; kids under 10 get in free. Parking is free, with food and drinks available for purchase. Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in the James Bond movies, will be signing autographs. Call (209) 722-6740.
