Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Anthony Gallegos: I didn't ask to join the NRA, and I wouldn't if I was

I received a letter with this on the front of the envelope: "YOUR NEW NRA MEMBERSHIP SHIELD ENCLOSED," written in capital letters.

This was a surprise, as I have never applied for National Rifle Association membership. I contacted them and informed the NRA that I could never be a card-carrying NRA member because I am a Catholic and believe in the sanctity of life. All life, not only the unborn.

During Sanctity of Life Sunday in Washington, D.C., the message was that during the past three months, there had been 112 abortions. What seems very hypocritical is, there was no outcry for the thousands of lives taken during the same period through some form of gun violence.

I also discovered that the NRA pays the Postal Service zero for delivering their mail because it is a nonprofit organization. It says so in capital letters where the stamp should be. No wonder the Postal Service is going broke. Where do we all think the NRA gets millions of dollars to run expensive TV ads that promote the NRA? (Guns, maybe?)
