ATWATER A house fire sent large columns of smoke into the sky Wednesday afternoon, causing about $100,000 in damage to a home at 6735 Gertrude Ave., according to Cal Fire officials.
Two people were at the home when the fire broke out. One of was evaluated for smoke inhalation, but no major injuries were reported.
Cal Fire responded to the scene just after 3 p.m., finding the carport area of the home engulfed in flames, said Cal Fire Capt. Jeremy Rahn.
Rahn said about 25 percent of the home was damaged, although firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the rest of the house. He said the fire was contained at 4 p.m.
Firefighters estimated the blaze caused about $75,000 in damage to the structure and $25,000 to its contents.
Twenty firefighters, three water tenders, three engines and one battalion chief responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is continuing.
