Margaret Herrera Camarena: Neighborhood Watch a good idea

Published: February 19, 2013

I read the letter “Neighborhood watch should return” (Feb. 5), and thoroughly agree.

Neighborhood watch is a very strong outreach in keeping our communities safer and should be in place in every corner of our city.

We have a neighborhood watch program in our senior community at Castlewood here in Atwater. Our residents are the eyes and ears, which has proven to be a vital source in keeping our community safer. Our city of Atwater chief of police and police officers are supportive and encourage our efforts. Because of our neighborhood watch program and involvement of our residents I cannot imagine living anywhere else that would be safer. Our own residents patrol our community at different times of the day and night. We also have neighbors watching out for neighbors. There is another very active neighborhood watch program in the Fay Drive and Winton Way area. I stay in touch with the coordinator and share information on what and who to watch for. I strongly recommend everyone organize a neighborhood watch program in their community with the ultimate goal of providing a safer environment on every street in the city of Atwater.
