FAIRFIELD -- Brad Reed wasnt feeling too bad.
His Merced High girls basketball team had fought back from a 10-1 hole to start the game and only trailed by six at intermission, despite not playing very well.
But No. 5 Armijo kicked it up a notch in the third quarter and the Bears' upset bid quickly unraveled in a 51-37 loss in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 playoffs. No. 12 Merced was outscored 19-8 in a turnover filled third quarter and the Bears never recovered.
"They came out and pressed us in the third quarter, but it wasn't the kind of press that resulted in a bunch of steals," Reed said. "We just made some terrible passes while under pressure. They basically ran us out of the game."
Dalonna Jones paced Merced (20-8) with 10 points. Lexi Thompson and Tekerra Borden each added six.
Colfax 47, Los Banos 34
COLFAX -- Alexis Barcellos nailed six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 19 points, but the Tigers (13-15) couldn't keep pace with No. 2 Colfax in a division 4 first-round playoff game.
Barcellos added five rebounds and four steals in the loss and Michelle Gutierrez chipped in six points and six rebounds.
Kingsburg 46, Chowchilla 43
CHOWCHILLA -- Jordan Lasiter's final game in a Redskin uniform was a tough one.
The Chowchilla star was just 4 of 22 for nine points in a Central Section Division 4 first-round loss to Kingsburg. Kelsey Floriano (team-high 14 points) tried to pick up the offensive slack with four 3-pointers, but it was the Vikings that made the big shots down the stretch.
Bear River 63, Hilmar 31
GRASS VALLEY -- Sarah Hager and Teryn Rath (team-high 14 points) led four different Bruins in double-digit scoring as the Division 4's top seed routed Hilmar (18-9) in a first-round playoff game.
Woodland Christian 45,
Le Grand 41
WOODLAND -- Patty Guizar and Shelbee Barraza each scored a team-high 11 points in a tough Division 5 loss to Woodland Christian.
