Around Town: Computer classes

The Merced County Office of Education is offering computer training classes from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 632 W. 13th St. Cost is $75 per class and the deadline to register is one week prior to the start of the class. Call (209) 381-6630. Classes are as follows:

March 5 -- Adobe Illustrator CS6 Level 2

March 12 -- Microsoft Excel 2010 Level 3

March 19 -- Microsoft Word 2010 Level 3

Heart Fund Breakfast

SNELLING -- The IOOF, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Hall will host a Heart Fund Breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. on Sunday at the hall. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. The meal includes pancakes, sausage, eggs cooked to order, juice and coffee. Proceeds will benefit the Heart Fund.

Fireballs League

The Fireballs League will be registering from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday for 10 and under as well as 14 and under softball; tee ball; and 8 and under baseball teams, at Me-n-Ed's Pizzeria in the Raley's Shopping Center. Call (209) 626-9474 or email thefireballs@live.com.

Warming center

The Merced County Rescue Mission has a warming center at the mission, 1931 Canal St. Check-in time is from 8 to 9 p.m. The center will be open until March 31. It provides a warm secure space for people who cannot find shelter from the cold and an area for their animals.

Adult literacy program

The Merced County Library is in need of volunteer tutors for its Read and Succeed Merced Adult Literacy Program. Call (209) 385-7391.

Last Hope Cat Kingdom

Last Hope Cat Kingdom is looking for volunteers for its Saturday and Sunday adoption events at Pet Smart. Last Hope brings cats and dogs in on those days for adoption specials and is in need of people to give just an hour or two on one day to help.
