I had to sit three good police officers down in my office and tell them they had to look for other jobs. Then I had to go to the Police Officers Association and get them to agree to modify their shifts and turn their lives and the lives of their families upside down, to provide for the needs of the department and the protection of the city until we could put these officers back on the force.
The department had to find grants, which are not out there anymore, to fill those lost positions so the police department could function normally and give the citizens the protection they deserve and meet the proper needs for officer safety. I don't like paying taxes anymore than the next person. But I know what it is like to be alone out in the streets so I will vote for this tax. Is a half-cent too much for you to pay to keep people safe?
