The new year is a time to reflect and be thankful for the blessings we have received. Jan. 1 marked the one-year anniversary of my 92-year-old father-in-law's passing. While we miss his presence in our lives, we consider ourselves blessed to have met so many amazing people who helped "Vinnie" -- and our entire family -- during a most difficult journey.
We would like to belatedly express our gratitude and appreciation to the loving staff of caregivers at Park Merced, and the LVNs and skilled nursing staff of Hinds Hospice for making Vinnie's final days as comfortable as possible.
But our greatest appreciation is reserved for Amie Marchini, the compassionate, hands-on owner of Park Merced. Amie -- with her knowledge and understanding of the aging process and the availability of appropriate services, combined with her commitment to provide for her residents' special needs -- provides a breath of fresh air into a service field in which many facilities cater only to the bottom line, not to the needs of their aging clientele. When considering care options for an elderly family member, be informed, pay attention, and decide if you want your loved one to be cared for by a loving, professional staff. We feel we made the right choice for our beloved Vinnie.
