A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the weekend after shots were fired at a woman in the Hilmar area, authorities said Tuesday.
Merced County deputies arrested Trinidad Ruesga on suspicion of shooting at the woman near Clausen and Golf Link roads Sunday, according to deputy Delray Shelton, sheriff's spokesman.
Ruesga had been arguing with another woman before the shots were fired, and had tried to contact her.
When the woman's neighbor asked Ruesga what he wanted, Ruesga became angry and shot at her, Shelton said.
Deputies captured Ruesga a few hours later.
While Ruesga was in the investigations office at the Sheriff's Department, he tried to escape on foot but was stopped by deputies, Shelton said.
Ruesga was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and obstructing police. He's being held in lieu of $502,000 bail.
