ATWATER -- A man was severely wounded during a shooting Wednesday evening at a mobile home park near Bellevue Road.
The 32-year-old victim was sitting outside in a lawn chair and bleeding heavily from his mouth and chest when officers arrived on scene just after 7 p.m., said Lt. Sam Joseph of the Atwater Police Department.
When paramedics arrived, they cut the clothing away from the victim and found two gunshot wounds to his upper chest, at least two to his left arm and one to his chin, Joseph said.
His injuries were life-threatening and he was flown to a Modesto hospital, Joseph said.
Officers found the crime scene inside one of the mobile homes in the 5000 block of Crest Road, Joseph said. Inside the victim's residence were several shell casings and puddles of blood.
Witnesses at the scene told police they heard several gunshots coming from the trailer before seeing a red Chevy S-10 pickup leave the residence at a high rate of speed, Joseph said.
The victim wasn't able to give much information to police because of his condition, Joseph said. Officers are looking for a person of interest based on details supplied by the victim and witnesses.
The incident doesn't appear to be gang-related, Joseph said, adding that police think the victim had been consuming alcohol with the suspect and an argument may have led to the shooting.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detective David Brum at (209) 357-6394.
