Shots fired in Merced but no injuries reported

MERCED -- No injuries were reported Monday night after shots were fired in the 100 block of West 12th Street, according to Merced police.

Details about the incident, which was reported around 9:30 p.m., were sketchy.

A 20-year-old man was standing in the front yard of the residence when the shooting happened. Lt. Bimley West said three people walked up to the house, and two members of the group brandished guns and fired. One bullet struck a house, West said, but the 20-year-old man wasn't hit.

The shooters fled on foot, and police found casings at the scene. West said the area is known for gang activity.

The shooters are described as Latino men, between 24 and 27 years old. One of the shooters was around 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds, while the other was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. A description of the third person in the group wasn't available.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the case to call (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tipline at (209) 385-4725. Residents can text a tip to TIP411 (847411) using "comvip" as the first word in the text message. Tips are kept confidential, and you can remain anonymous.
