Lone gunman robs man at apartment unit

MERCED -- No one was hurt Monday night during a robbery at an apartment building in the 100 block of T Street, Merced police reported Tuesday.

The incident occurred at about 8:50 p.m. after a lone gunman who had his face covered threatened a 41-year-old man who was renovating a unit at the building.

The gunman, a man in his 30s who wore a burgundy sweatshirt and pants, walked inside the unit and brandished a sawed-off shotgun while demanding money from the victim, according to Lt. Bimley West.

The victim handed over a small amount of cash, and the robber fled on foot, West said. The victim wasn't hurt during the robbery.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the case to call (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tipline at (209) 385-4725. Residents can text a tip to TIP411 (847411) using "comvip" as the first word in the text message. Tips are kept confidential, and you can remain anonymous.
