MERCED -- A Merced Art Hop Rummage Sale fund-raiser is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the back parking lot area of M and 16th streets, by Hansen Tire.
All proceeds will benefit the Art Hop -- a family-friendly downtown event which showcases local artists, music and entertainment. The Art Hop started five years ago.
At the rummage sale, shoppers will be able to find stereo speakers, electronics, household items, clothing and more.
Kevin Hammon, local business owner and co-founder of the Art Hop, said it costs about $3,000 to put on each Art Hop event. Art Hop's organizers initially used grants and sponsorships to put on the event.
Hammon said he's hopeful Mercedians will turn out at Saturday's rummage sale to support the Art Hop, which has become a vibrant part of downtown's atmosphere.
Many downtown businesses participate in the Art Hop, with 50 to 300 artists showing their work on any one night.
The Art Hop is held four times a year -- in January, April, July and October in downtown Merced on the third Saturday of the month.
