Renate Schmitz: Thanks for grant help

Published: March 7, 2013

SUN-STAR PHOTO BY BEA AHBECK volunteer Lyssa Anderson hugs Last Hope Cat Kingdom co-founder Renate Schmitz outside the Last Hope Cat Kingdom building Fri, Dec. 31, 2010. An early morning fire severely damaged the office room of the shelter, and smoke from the fire spread throughout the building and killed over 60 of the shelter's cats. The shelter is in need of monetary donations, volunteers to help with the aftermath, foster homes for the remaining cats until the damage has been repaired, and food, litter, blankets and battery operated lamps or a portable generator, since the power to the building will be out for the forseeable future.

Thank you to Santa Fe Pet Hospital for collaborating with us so that we could make a difference in the lives of local pets and their owners. Dr. William Bell and his staff did a phenomenal job with all the procedures and took great care with all the animals.

I want you all to know that I love and appreciate all you do for Last Hope and the animals.

I especially want to thank Moody, Last Hope's volunteer secretary. She did an amazing job helping to obtain the grant, issuing all the vouchers, writing reports, keeping records and completing it all in less than two months.

We still have a long way to go to resolve Merced County's overpopulation problem, but as long as the problem exists, Last Hope will continue to seek grants and will try to find local options to stem this critical problem.
