For the first time in my life, I was happy that I couldn't find a parking space last Friday night. My husband and I were heading out for dinner at King's on Main.
As we neared downtown, we saw activity everywhere: an exercise class going strong, people chatting and walking, a line at the cinema, cars circling the Merced Theatre lot to see "The Little Mermaid Jr.," people filling various restaurants and bars, and for the life of us, we could not find an empty spot.
I turned to my husband and smiled. "It's happening!" I said. "Merced is finally coming back."
