Sun-star staff

Merced police responded to Rahilly Park after a couple reported they'd been robbed late Saturday night.

The incident was reported at 10:51 p.m. in the 3400 block of North Parsons Avenue, near El Portal Drive. Police said the robbers remain at large.

The victim and his girlfriend were sitting in the park when they were approached by two black male adults wearing all dark clothing. One of the men pulled out what was described as a large-caliber firearm and pointed it at the victims, according to police.

The robbers demanded the victims' money and cell phones. After robbing the two victims of their belongings, the pair of robbers fled northbound on foot toward Black Rascal Creek. Officers arrived and searched the area, but were unable to find the robbers.

Police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the case to call (209) 385-4702 or the department's automated tip line at (209) 385-4725. Residents can text a tip to TIP411 (847411) using "comvip" as the first word in the text message. Tips are kept confidential, and you can remain anonymous.
