Local roundup: Merced softball crushes Pitman

TURLOCK — The Merced High softball team pounded out 16 hits, including three home runs, as it crushed Pitman 15-2 in the Central California Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.

Jahnessa Anderson-Lopez, Ruby Quiralte and Megan Kravec all hit home runs for the Bears (6-3 overall, 1-0 CCC), who won the battle of CCC co-champions from last year.

Anderson-Lopez, Chelsea Evans and Serina Castillo all had three hits and Quiralte drove in three runs. Freshman Madilyn Nickles pitched a complete game for the win, giving up just four hits.

Atwater 11, Turlock 3

TURLOCK -- Haylie Lawrence hit a double and a triple and finished with four RBIs to lead the Falcons (2-3-2, 1-0 CCC) past the Bulldogs.

Brigette Berlier added two hits and two RBIs for Atwater.

Soccer

Livingston 4, Ceres 0

LIVINGSTON -- Brittany Sarnillo scored two goals to lead the Wolves past the Bulldogs.

Roxanna Barragan and Arylin Chavez added goals for Livingston (5-4-3, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference).

Baseball

Chowchilla 6, Dos Palos 2

DOS PALOS -- Frankie Schwartz went 2 for 4 with two RBIs as the Redskins improved to 5-1 this season.

Sean Kinsley picked up the win on the mound and doubled at the plate.

Adam Coronado and Zack Zuspan each had a pair of hits for the Broncos (4-5).

Golf

Merced 231, Atwater 281

Daniel Col turned in the low round of the day with a score of 39 to lead the Bears (1-1 CCC) past the Falcons. Jake Kantor added a 45 for Merced.

Tennis

Merced 9, Buhach Col. 0

Jordan Cabrera cruised to a win in the No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Buhach Colony's Ricardo Fierro as the Bears improved to 1-1 in the CCC.

Colin Rabago, Balvinder Mann and Talha Shabbir all swept their singles matches for Merced.

Turlock 7, Golden Valley 2

One of the Cougars' bright spots was Cesar Nava's 6-4, 6-2 win over Jordan Bean in the No. 1 singles match. Jason Atwal picked up Golden Valley's other victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Martin Castorena.
