Around Town: Spring break activities

SPCA Easter event

Framed Easter Bunny photos will be offered by the Merced SPCA from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Merced Wal-Mart. Photos of children, adults and pets will cost $5 each. There will be Easter-related baskets and gifts for purchase as well.

Good Friday dinner

Club Mercedes will hold its annual Good Friday dinner from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 29 at the club, Ninth and M streets. The beverage lounge will open at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children, The dinner includes two chile rellenos, beans, rice and tortillas. No early birds please. Call (209) 383-9906.

Apply for scholarships

The Merced College Foundation has opened its application period for scholarship awards for the 2013-14 academic year. More than $125,000 is available for students attending Merced College and transferring to a four-year institution or those entering in the fall 2013 semester as freshmen. Easter performance

WINTON -- The First Baptist Church of Winton will present a triumphant celebration of Easter by performing "Upon this Rock" at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29, at 7264 Myrtle Ave. All are welcome. Call (209) 358-6975.

'The Last Supper'

Merced First Assembly of God will hold its annual Easter program at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29, and at 6 p.m. Easter Sunday, March 31, at the church, 1350 Yosemite Park Way. The live performance of "The Last Supper" is free. Call (209) 383-6130.

Proper flag disposal

ATWATER -- The Atwater Veterans of Foreign Wars will properly dispose of any flags that are torn, soiled or tattered. Just drop off the flag at the post, 1390 Broadway. Also, the VFW has its Hamburger Night every Wednesday from 5 to 7. The group provides wheelchairs and walkers at no charge to veterans who need them. Call (209) 358-7224.
