Two shootings reported at Birmingham Court home in Merced

No injuries were reported this week in two shootings reported at a home the 2900 block of Birmingham Court, north of Bear Creek, according to Merced police.

The first incident was reported at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers responded to a call of shots fired. The occupants of the home said an unknown suspect had shot at their residence, and officers found bullet holes in the front windows of the house, and several shell casings in the street in front of the structure, police said.

Nine people were inside at the time of the shooting, five of whom were children. Witnesses said a male wearing all dark clothes approached the home on foot from Hansen Avenue and fired five or six times at the residence. The shooter fled eastbound on foot on Hansen Avenue.

Police said Wednesday's incident was second shooting at that residence this week. On Tuesday, three Latino males were involved in an argument in the front yard. Witnesses said one man fired at two other males after the argument.

Witnesses in both cases have not been very forthcoming, police said, and it’s believed the shootings are gang related.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Joe Deliman at (209) 385-6913 or (209) 385-4702, or the department's automated tipline at (209) 385-4725. Tips can also be sent via anonymous text messages by dialing "TIP411" (847411) and including the word "Comvip" as the “keyword” in the text message.
