The Lake Natoma Four Bridges run has been rebranded and re-routed. It will be called the Folsom Blues Breakout Half Marathon.
The Sacramento Running Association is in partnership with the City of Folsom to present the changed-up half-marathon scheduled for Oct. 19 over a fast, new course. The race also features Johnny Cash tribute bands and other live performances.
The Cash connection is a natural, according to the race promoter and Folsom officials. Cash had a hit with "Folsom Prison Blues" and later performed the song at the prison.
The race promotes Folsom and pays homage to the late country singer, said Mary Ann McAlea, Folsom's tourism director.
"He put Folsom on the map," said McAlea in a press release.
The new course starts at the Folsom Crossing Bridge, heads to Folsom-Auburn Road and circles Lake Natoma counter clockwise before finishing in Folsom - an elevation drop of 150 feet.
"The course will be extremely fast," said race promoter John Mansoor.
The race comes about two weeks after another Sacramento area half marathon, the Urban Cow Half Marathon in William Land Park.
