Fred Warchol: Adam Gray proving a competent leader

It takes time to get acclimated to the rarified air of the Sacramento-based state Legislature.

Not so for Adam Gray, our newly minted assemblyman for the 21st District.

The Assembly leadership has demonstrated its confidence in Gray by appointing him chairman of the prestigious Joint Legislative Audit Committee.

This seven-member committee is tasked to keep a sharp eye on the financial practices of all governmental agencies.

He was also appointed to serve on the Aging and Long-Term Care Committee.

All of the above is impressive. However, here at home, Merced County suffers with high levels of unemployment and abject poverty. It needs leaders to tackle local problems.

Adam has done that by proposing Assembly Bill 688. It declares certain economic disaster areas, like Merced County, be given priority for state contracts and investment in public works.

He has also authored AB 909, which provides badly needed resources to local law enforcement.

Now if we could clone Gray so we could have more competent and effective leaders.
