Nonteaching or support employees with the Merced Union High School District will get $1,000 bonuses with the ratification of a 2012-13 contract by trustees.
The one-time off-schedule bonus will cost the district an additional $462,379; CSEA members overwhelmingly approved the contract March 26 and trustees Wednesday night voted 4-0 in favor of the agreement, which has been in the works since October.
"It was a long session," CSEA President Gloria Coulombe said. "I'm glad it's over. I think we worked well together with the district. We will be getting a little bit of relief for our members."
Coulombe said CSEA Chapter 252 has 380 members. One of the contract changes allows the district to hire part-time bus drivers so partial, morning-only bus service can be offered starting April 8 on four routes in Merced, and the Atwater-Winton and Beachwood-Franklin areas.
Trustee William Snyder III participated in the discussion remotely from Laguna Nigel via speaker phone. This is permitted in the state Government Code as long as a meeting notice is posted outside the building where the trustee is staying, Steve Gomes, county superintendent of schools, said.
