WINTON -- A 31-year-old man who was shot early Monday morning is expected to survive.

The Merced County Sheriff's Department responded to the incident after 12:30 a.m. Monday near the corner of West Walnut Avenue and North Center Street, said Deputy Delray Shelton, sheriff's spokesman.

Deputies found the man with a gunshot would to his left inner-thigh, Shelton said. He was transported to a Modesto-area hospital.

Authorities don't think Monday's shooting was connected to Saturday's shooting in the Atwater area that left three teenagers dead.

It's unknown if Monday's shooting was gang-related, Shelton said. No suspects have been arrested and no other injuries were reported.
