On a sad note
We say goodbye to a bowling friend. John Smith, 65, of Atwater passed away on Thursday, Mar. 28 at the Merced Medical Center in Merced. You should remember Smith who was a regular with his wife Frances in the Tuesday night Guys and Dolls league and bowled for years at Bellevue Bowl. He was always laughing and carrying on during league play. He was a average bowler. His name to fame was that when he was bowling he always used a big bath towel and not a bowling towel. They both traveled to the annual Department of Defense tournament held on Columbus Day weekend in October with a group from the Merced/Atwater area. The DOD is held at Rancho Bowl in Santa Maria. Services were pending at press time.
