Colin Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback from Turlock, will serve as one of the awards presenters for the 48th Academy of Country Music Awards show Sunday night.
CBS will televise the event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, as Kaepernick who led the 49ers to within one touchdown of a Super Bowl championship last season adds another high-profile date to his busy off-season.
He previously presented at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and joined First Lady Michelle Obama and an arena full of children in Chicago to promote physical education.
DEMERY ON U23 NATIONAL TEAM
Cal State Stanislaus junior Karenee Demery of Merced is among 21 players on the Under-23 United States Women's National Team roster. Demery is the only Division II player on the roster. It is also believed to be the first time in California Collegiate Athletic Association history that a women's soccer player has been invited to national team camp.
The U23 Women's National Team will train at the Home Depot Center in Carson from April 13-20. They will play two matches against the Under-20 Women's National Team who recently won the U20 FIFA World Cup.
CSUS SOFTBALL COMPLETES SWEEP
Cal State Stanislaus beat Montana State-Billings twice by 3-1 scores on Wednesday in advance of its Tournament of Champions this weekend. The victories eneded an eight-game losing streak for the Warriors (13-21). Kristan Burns and Kiley Mendez each had RBI singles in the opener. Pinch runner Ghianna Falconi scored on a squeeze bunt by Brittany Rickles for the third run.
In Game 2, pitcher Brittani Weatherford smacked an RBI double in the third to score Amy Dorege, who went on to hit a two-run single with two outs in the sixth. Stanislaus opens the Tournament of Champions on Friday with Sonoma State at 11:15 a.m. at the Pedretti Sports Complex. The 26-team, 83-game tournament is being played at three locations in Turlock.
