Question: What are the key features of your vehicle?
Answer: Key features of my ride are a Chevy Corvette motor and 700R tranny, with AC, power steering, power windows and Volare front end.
Q: What did you have to do to get it in its present state?
A: Built the car myself from the ground up except for the paint and upholstery.
Q: What else do you want to do to it?
A: Pretty much have done everything I wanted to do and just drive and enjoy now.
Q: How did acquire your vehicle?
A: Looked for three years for the right pickup to buy. Bought it in San Diego off eBay.
Q: Why did you pick that particular vehicle and what do you find appealing about it?
A: Back in 1963 I bought a similar pickup from the Ford dealership in Merced and had the pickup for several years and always regretted selling it. The fact that my two grandsons love to ride in this car and for me to make it go fast. They love the sound of the Corvette motor.
Q: What started your love affair with cars?
A: Always liked cars since 11 years old. I had two Merced Sun-Star paper routes at the same time and saved my money to buy a car at 15½. While having my paper routes, I worked as a busboy for the Pine Cone restaurant on 16th Street all through high school.
Q: What advice would you give others about starting such a project?
A: Save money, build what you want and finish it.
Q: Do you have any other collector vehicles or project cars?
A: Have had Camaros, Corvettes and SSR and Harleys but only this one now at 71.
Q: What's your favorite memory about this ride?
A: That fact that I was able to have it running and look good in only four months after I had retired.
