Once again the Central Valley and the Sierra foothills are being targeted by big business (specifically the insurance companies) in a very negative way.
Unfair business practices should be investigated and the offending companies held accountable.
Californians (specifically rural families) have paid more than ever in increased taxes to help pay for fire protection for the state, and local communities. Yet the big insurance companies don't seem to care.
Having been a customer for more than 30 years we recently received a letter stating that our "preferred homeowners" policy will not be renewed.
Why? The company has revised their classifications and says that we either have no primary fire department or that the existing fire department service is inadequate. That's totally made up!
Our fire department has all new equipment (less than two years old) and can respond to my home in less than five minutes, and I have a 3,000-gallon holding tank with a fire hose hookup.
I know life isn't always fair. But when unfair business practice is allowed to prosper, we all lose.
