A manhunt is still on in the Dos Palos area for an Oregon suspect who allegedly killed one person and wounded another during a shooting earlier this week.
Leland Thomas Nicholson Jr., who goes by the nickname Tom, is wanted by law enforcement in Klamath County, Ore., for killing Terry Entriken, 28, and attempting to kill Vanessa Alexander, 36, according to police.
Entriken was shot in the back of the head, according to the Herald and News newspaper in Klamath Falls, Ore. Police are trying to determine a motive for the shootings.
The suspect was tracked to Dos Palos and local police think he's still in the area.
Chief Barry Mann of the Dos Palos Police Department said his agency has gotten some help from the public and they're investigating leads that have been developed.
"At this time, we've had several tips come in and we are just looking into those and trying to see what new information can be gained," he said.
Though Nicholson's location is still unknown, authorities think he's remained in the Dos Palos area since he was first tracked there after Sunday's incident.
Having the suspected killer on the loose has caused anxiety for some locals.
"We have reassured several citizens that we believe that his targets in the Oregon area were specific and there shouldn't be any risks or random targets in Dos Palos," Mann said. "But people are concerned."
The Dos Palos Police Department is still coordinating with police agencies from Oregon as well as federal agencies, including the FBI, to catch Nicholson, Mann said, adding that his department has been communicating with Oregon authorities hourly.
Nicholson, 27, has family in Merced, Fresno and Dos Palos, Mann said.
Nicholson is described as a white man who's 6 feet 2 inches tall and 240 pounds with short, reddish-brown hair and green eyes. He has a tattoo reading "Nikki" on the right side of his neck and may have other tattoos, police said. His last known address was 4605 Denver Ave., Klamath Falls.
If anyone sees Nicholson, they're asked to call 911. He's considered armed and dangerous, Mann said.
