Parks and Recreation free movie night today

The Merced County Parks and Recreations will present a free movie at 8:15 p.m. today at Ralston Park. Some activities for young children will begin at 7:15 p.m. Bring a blanket or chairs. Call (209) 358-3741 for more information.

COVE Paws for a Cause Dog Walk, Run

COVE, Center of Vision Enhancement, will host Paws for a Cause Dog Walk and Run with check-in at 7 a.m. on Saturday at Applegate Park and start time at 8:30 a.m. Prices range from $8 to $17 and proceeds go the support programs and services of COVE. Sons of Thunder Bike Blessing is Saturday

Sons of Thunder will hold its 10th annual Bike Blessing with sign-in at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, at Christian Life Center, 650 E. Olive Ave. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided. The blessing will start at 10 a.m., followed by a ride through the foothills, a barbecue at Henderson Park and then on to Snelling to listen to live music by Rhema Blues Band. Merced County Genealogical Society

The Merced County Genealogical Society will meet at noon Saturday at the library, 2100 O St. The speaker will be Richard Rands, who will discuss Italian ancestors. Meetings are open to all, no membership required.

Atwater PAL World Book Night is Tuesday

ATWATER -- The community is invited to attend the Atwater Police Activities League World Book Night reception at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Castle Youth Center at Veteran's Park at Buhach and Bellevue roads.

Vietnam veterans group looking for members

The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 0691, is looking for new members. To qualify, interested parties must have served during the Vietnam War era. For more information call (209) 381-0451 or visit at 450 W. 21st St., Merced.
