Stolen ATV pulled out of Stevinson canal

April 19, 2013

A stolen all-terrain vehicle was found inside a canal near Howard Road and Highway 140 in Stevinson on Friday, according to the California Highway Patrol in Merced.

The vehicle was reported to authorities by an unidentified party around 2:25 p.m., officials said.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Dive Team was dispatched to investigate the incident and extract the vehicle, which was completely submerged in the canal.

It’s unclear how long the vehicle was underwater, but the reporting party said it could have been a few days.

CHP officials said on Friday the vehicle matched the description of a Kawasaki ATV reported stolen four days ago from Stanislaus county.
