Woman robbed of purse at gunpoint

A 45-year-old woman reported being robbed of her purse at gunpoint Sunday morning in Merced, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 8 a.m. on T Street near 10th Street in south Merced, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

The victim, an in-home support services care provider, had dropped off a client in the neighborhood. As she was returning to her car, she was confronted by the robber, who pointed a black semi-automatic gun at her, demanding her purse, Chapman said.

The woman complied with the robber's demands and handed over the purse. The robber fled on foot northbound on T Street.

The victim wasn't hurt during the robbery. The culprit is described as a black man, about 6 foot tall with a medium build, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, black hat and blue jeans.
