UCLA basketball recruit Allerick Freeman has been given his release from a national letter of intent.

Freeman was recruited by former UCLA head coach Ben Howland, who was fired in March.

"Allerick is a fine young man with a tremendous future ahead of him," said new UCLA coach Steve Alford in a statement Thursday. "My coaching staff and I are supportive of his decision, and we feel that a mutual parting of ways is the best solution."

Freeman, a 6-foot-4 guard from Charlotte, N.C., has not decided where he will sign.
