I am very disappointed in the Merced SPCA. My daughter reached out to them when one of her dogs was very sick and she couldn't afford the vet bill and they were unwilling to help her.

A big sign outside states that they are not taking in any animals and are "full." Frankly, the place has been "full" for years. I called in because I have a little dog who runs around the neighborhood and I am concerned that he will be hit by a car or worse. The SPCA told me that they only accept "owner surrendered" dogs and no longer take in strays.

A friend who is a volunteer there says that there are empty cages and they are not "full." I guess they will only help you if you wish to surrender an animal -- and pay the surrender fee.

Lastly, when my daughter was beside herself with her sick little dog, she called Last Hope Cat Kingdom in Atwater and they were wonderful.
