City of Merced releases proposed budget

The city of Merced recently posted its proposed budget for 2013-14. The budget calls for $32,589,752 in spend, a 4.2 percent increase over last year.

The budget predicts a 6 percent increase in sales taxes, a 5.2 percent increase in business-license fees and no increase in property taxes. Measure C revenues are expected to total $6.2 million, an increase of 6.4 percent.

The City Council will hold budget review sessions at 6 p.m. on May 13, 14, 22 and 29 in the Merced Civic Center at 678 W. 18th St. The City Council is scheduled to hold its public hearing on the budget on June 3. The budget is schedule for adoption June 17.
