Merced County Fair officials want to remind the public that 5 p.m. Thursday is the deadline for exhibitors to submit most entry forms.
Depending on the entry category, participants can win ribbons, prizes and cash awards. The fair is June 12-16.
This year's theme is "Thank You Veterans" and some of the entry divisions in the 2013 Merced County Fair Exhibitor's Handbook give exhibitors the opportunity to create something inspired by that theme.
In the Fine Arts Department under photography, there is a print division that invites exhibitors to enter their representations of "Thank You Veterans."
Entries may be black and white or color photos, and one entry is permitted per exhibitor. See page 27 in the Exhibitor's Handbook for details.
"Quilting for Veterans" is a new quilting division under the Home Arts Department.
The three classes are placemats, lap quilts and bed quilts. Ribbons will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place entries in each class.
All items entered will be given to a military hospital or to charities that assist veterans. See page 21 in the Exhibitor's Handbook.
In the Floriculture Department, exhibitors can assemble a garden in a wagon or a wheelbarrow, a dried-silk arrangement or pedestal arrangement, or a decorated door or wind chimes, following the fair theme or other patriotic themes.
In the Home Arts Department, participants can put together a table setting inspired by the themes "Stars and Stripes" or "Anchors Away." Under the Crafts and Hobbies Department, there's a class for exhibiting military collections.
The Exhibitor's Handbook is filled with hundreds of entry possibilities. The handbook, including entry forms, is available at www.mercedcountyfair.com. To go directly to the online exhibitor's handbook, visit www.mercedcountyfair. com/pages/fair/ handbook.html.
For those who want a copy of the handbook, it can be picked up at the fair office, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
Fair staff are available to assist in completing entry forms. Office hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
