— No one was hurt this week when shots rang out in the 1400 block of R Street near Costco, Merced police reported Wednesday.

No suspects are in custody.

Police responded to the scene at 8:43 p.m. Monday and found .40-caliber shell casings in the street near the southeast corner of Costco, in addition to a handgun that had been discarded, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

Four people were detained by police, but they were released after questioning. Skinner said the people who were detained claimed that they were the ones who had been fired upon.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as being a black Lincoln Navigator or Ford Expedition with chrome wheels.
