Merced man dies after Fahrens Park shooting

Victim described shooter for police

— A 33-year-old Merced man died after being shot at Fahrens Park early Monday, Merced police reported.

The shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m. in the 3300 block of R Street. The victim, identified as a Latino male, was shot in the upper torso, according to police.

He was flown to a regional hospital for treatment for his injuries. The victim described the shooter as a black man wearing a black sweat shirt.

Officers haven't found the gun used in the shooting. The motive for the shooting is unknown, police said.

The victim's name is being withheld until the Merced County coroner's office can notify his family.
