Ex-Mercedian to appear on game show

May 18, 2013

— A former Mercedian will be one of the contestants on the ABC reality game show "Wipeout" when it airs tonight, her mother said.

Samantha Guzman, 19, will be one of several contestants trying to successfully negotiate a large obstacle course featuring water hazards, moving objects and unsteady platforms.

The episode featuring Guzman is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. today on Channel 30 out of Fresno, an ABC affiliate.

Chansamay Guzman said her daughter, who now lives in Los Angeles, applied to be on the show through its website. That landed her an interview with a casting producer and eventually a live audition.

She said she thinks her daughter's goofy personality helped her land a spot on the show.

Guzman said her daughter's "Gangnam Style" victory dance also likely convinced producers to select her.

Samantha Guzman is a 2012 graduate of Golden Valley High School.
