MERCED — A 27-year-old man was sent to the hospital early Tuesday after being shot in the leg, Merced police reported.
The shooter remains at large.
Police were dispatched to a shots fired call after midnight in the 1200 block of Fig Avenue, not far from West Childs Avenue and T Street, according to Lt. Bimley West.
Officers found the injured victim seated in the driver's seat of a car, and the lower portion of the driver's side door had several bullet holes in it.
The wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, and the victim was flown to a Modesto hospital.
Witnesses said the shooter, described as a Latino male dressed in dark clothing, walked over to the car the victim was seated inside and started firing, police said.
Officers searched the area, but did not find the shooter. Police do not have a motive.
