27-year-old man sitting in car shot in south Merced

May 21, 2013

— A 27-year-old man was sent to the hospital early Tuesday after being shot in the leg, Merced police reported.

The shooter remains at large.

Police were dispatched to a shots fired call after midnight in the 1200 block of Fig Avenue, not far from West Childs Avenue and T Street, according to Lt. Bimley West.

Officers found the injured victim seated in the driver's seat of a car, and the lower portion of the driver's side door had several bullet holes in it.

The wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, and the victim was flown to a Modesto hospital.

Witnesses said the shooter, described as a Latino male dressed in dark clothing, walked over to the car — the victim was seated inside — and started firing, police said.

Officers searched the area, but did not find the shooter. Police do not have a motive.
