MERCED — A woman was taken to the hospital after being shot in the foot and another person escaped unharmed in two separate shooting incidents, Merced police reported Sunday.
About 11:30 p.m. officers responded to the 100 block of S Street to investigate reports of shots being fired. Police arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her right foot.
Police learned the victim was visiting a friend when an older, dark blue Camaro or Firebird passed by. Officers said one of the occupants of the car started shooting at the two women, who were standing outside the home.
One shot hit the victim and others struck the house, according to police. The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to Mercy Medical Center Merced. No arrests were made and no weapons were recovered, police said.
Earlier Saturday, officers responded to a drive-by shooting in the 1300 block of Canal Street, Merced police reported Sunday.
Officers responded to the scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. The person being targeted, identified only as a Latino man, was found in the 1200 block of Canal Street but was uncooperative, according to police.
Police said the shooters were last seen in a silver minivan. Officers said the victim, who is a gang member, wasn't hurt. No one was arrested and no weapons were found.
