— A Merced man has been arrested in connection with a weekend shooting in downtown Merced, near the 1700 block of Canal Street, police reported Friday.

Princeton Williams, 26, was taken into custody about 10:30 p.m. Thursday after witness statements, a dash-cam video and other evidence led officers to his home on Austin Drive.

On Sunday, officers heard multiple shots fired and learned the suspects were driving a dark-colored Chevy Suburban. Police found numerous shell casings, but no injuries were reported.

When officers located the vehicle near 19th and V streets Sunday, the driver led police on a six-minute chase from central Merced to north Merced.

During Thursday's arrest, officers found a large amount of methamphetamine, cash and a pistol magazine inside the home.

A gun was not found, according to Sgt. Rodney Court.

There were two young children in the house who were taken into protective custody, Court said.

Officers are still working to identify two passengers who fled during the pursuit Sunday.

Merced police are asking that anyone with any information call Sgt. Scott Skinner at (209) 385-6913 or (209) 385-4702, or the department's automated tipline at (209) 385-4725. The public can send information via anonymous text messages by dialing "TIP411" (847411) and including the word "Comvip" as the keyword.
